Hello, San Francisco!

#456: So long, Altstadt

We’ll miss you!

#455: Goodbye, Apartment

We’ll miss you.

Auf Wiedersehen, Heidelberg!

Until we see each other again…

The bags are nearly packed, the house is emptied and it is officially our last day in Heidelberg. I cannot believe how fast this day has come.

Tomorrow morning we fly back to San Francisco. So, as you can imagine, I won’t be posting again until we land on Californian shores.

But I still have a ton of Heidelberg photos to share with you, over the next few weeks…

As we transition away from Germany and back to the US.

Wish us luck, and upgrades, and sane, happy kitties!

xo, Kassie

Cavern

How do you photograph the sound of an empty space?

A place where the once familiar creak of a certain 2nd stair, now stretches out and echos off the walls in ghostly reverberation.

It is a cavern in here. The movers have come and taken all the bits of our home, and we are left with this hollow shell. Of dust, pistachio shells and errant electrical cords. For two days. Three nights. Until we ship ourselves overseas as well. And join our belongings on a trip west.

Needless to say, I am without my creature comforts.

This move crept up on me. Though I encouraged it. I squatted in the haunches of my mind, lazy, stubborn and with a childlike petulance in defiance of it. But, set in motion with the steadfastness that only a big corporation can promise, it came.  And I wept.

For all the goodbyes it signified. And all the goodbyes still to come.
