thought i’d add my own contributions to the 6-word memoir challenge that’s sweeping the literary web right now. so, here are a few.
so much i’m still wondering about.
certainly not how i expected it.

if you haven’t yet seen the wonderful film la vie en rose perhaps marion cotillard’s shiny new oscar for best actress will convince you. it’s one man’s vision of the story and the life of edit piaf–the iconic french singer and actress turned legend.

mehl mystery or the woes of cookie-baking when living in a foreign land
now, i consider myself a fairly accomplished cookie-baker. cookies are probably the first thing i learned how to make as a child, twenty-something years ago. my mom has an old picture of me, wooden spoon in hand and barely eye-level with the counter, leaning into a gigantic stainless steel bowl stirring the chocolate chips into the dough. i have this focused look in my eyes, like ‘take me seriously mom, i’m a real cook, here.’

cappuccinos
from the land of exemplary coffee: portland, oregon. i think i’m posting this because i’m desperate for a perfect-looking cappuccino like this right now. this was shot at the ace hotel’s new stumptown location in downtown portland….where the excellent atmosphere befits the excellent coffee.
